  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Fine-mesh strainer (optional for smoother syrup)
  • Airtight storage container or glass bottle

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar or brown sugar for a richer flavor
  • 1/4 cup canned pumpkin puree not pumpkin pie filling
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice or homemade blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon optional, for extra warmth

Instructions

  • Step 1: Combine Ingredients
  • In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, and cinnamon (if using).
  • Whisk well until everything is thoroughly mixed.
  • Step 2: Simmer the Syrup
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring often, until the syrup thickens slightly.
  • Step 3: Add Vanilla
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat, and stir in the vanilla extract. Mix well.
  • Step 4: Strain (Optional)
  • For a smoother syrup, pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl or jar to remove any pumpkin solids.
  • This step is optional but will create a syrup with a smoother texture.
  • Step 5: Cool and Store
  • Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature before transferring it to an airtight container or glass bottle.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

  • Adjusting Sweetness: For a less sweet syrup, reduce the sugar to 1/2 cup.
  • Storage Tip: Store in an airtight glass jar or bottle in the fridge. Shake well before using, as ingredients may settle.
  • Pumpkin Spice Variation: For more flavor, adjust the pumpkin pie spice to your liking or add a pinch of allspice.
