Step 1: Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Coating
In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon for the coating. Set aside.
Step 2: Heat the Oil
Pour oil into a deep frying pan or pot, filling it about 2 inches deep. Heat the oil to around 350°F (175°C).
Step 3: Make the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and salt.
Gradually add the milk to the dry ingredients, whisking until a smooth, thick batter forms.
Step 4: Coat the Apple Fries
Working in batches, dip the apple slices into the batter, ensuring they’re fully coated.
Step 5: Fry the Apple Fries
Carefully place the coated apple slices into the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning them as needed for even cooking.
Use a slotted spoon to remove the apple fries from the oil, and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
Step 6: Toss in Cinnamon Sugar
While the apple fries are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
Step 7: Serve
Serve the apple fries warm with caramel sauce or whipped cream for dipping.
