Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Prepare the dough:
If using puff pastry or crescent roll dough, roll it out into a rectangle about 10x12 inches.
Cut the dough into 6 strips using a knife or pizza cutter.
Layer ham and cheese:
Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each strip of dough.
Fold the ham and cheese slightly so it fits neatly along the strip.
Wrap into sticks:
Roll each strip from one end to the other, creating a “stick” shape with the ham and cheese inside.
Press the seams lightly to seal them.
Egg wash:
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of water.
Brush the tops of the ham and cheese sticks with the egg wash to give them a golden, glossy finish when baked.
Optional toppings:
Sprinkle sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or a pinch of garlic powder on top for extra flavor and texture.
Bake:
Place the ham and cheese sticks on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and crispy.
Serve:
Remove the sticks from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
Serve with mustard, marinara sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce.
