Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • White frosting for decorating

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, beat together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add egg, molasses, water, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until dough forms.
  • Divide dough into two, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
  • Place cookies on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are firm.
  • Let cool, then decorate with white frosting.
