  • Cooling rack
  • Piping bag or ziplock bag

Ingredients

  • For the Donuts:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg optional
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp melted butter for brushing or dipping, optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and thoroughly grease the donut pan with baking spray to ensure the donuts release easily after baking.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon, making sure to mix well for a uniform flavor throughout the donuts.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and free of any lumps.
  • Gently incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring until just combined to avoid overmixing, which can result in tough donuts.
  • Transfer the donut batter into a piping bag to easily and neatly fill the prepared donut pan with the batter.
  • Bake the donuts in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until they are lightly springy to the touch. Allow the donuts to cool briefly in the pan before transferring them to a wire rack for complete cooling before serving.
