  • Piping bag with star tip
  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towels
  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 quarts oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup white sugar for coating
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate chopped
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • Oil for frying
  • Cinnamon
  • Cinnamon sugar mixture
  • Bittersweet chocolate sauce

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine water, white sugar, salt, and vegetable oil, and bring the mixture to a simmer to create the churro dough base, ensuring all ingredients are fully incorporated.
  • Gradually incorporate the all-purpose flour into the mixture, stirring continuously until a smooth dough forms without any lumps, ready to be fried.
  • Heat 2 quarts of oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) to fry the churros until they turn crispy and achieve a golden brown color.
  • Using a star tip, pipe the churro dough into the hot oil, cutting them to your desired lengths as they cook to perfection.
  • Once the churros are golden brown, carefully remove them from the oil and place them on paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  • Roll each fried churro generously in the cinnamon sugar mixture to add a sweet and spicy coating before serving them warm alongside the decadent bittersweet chocolate sauce for dipping.

Notes

Make sure the oil is at the right temperature before frying the churros to ensure they cook evenly.
Pipe the churros directly into the oil for a more authentic shape and texture.
Use a slotted spoon to gently turn the churros while frying to ensure they are evenly cooked on all sides.
Don’t overcrowd the frying oil to prevent the churros from sticking together.
Serve the churros warm for the best taste and texture.
