Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Ramekins or molds

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Chocolate shavings or berries for garnish optional
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons gelatin
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt. Heat the mixture until the sugar dissolves completely, creating a decadent chocolate base for the panna cotta.
  • Sprinkle gelatin over cold water in a small bowl and let it sit for 5 minutes to bloom properly. This step is crucial for ensuring the panna cotta sets correctly and achieves a silky smooth texture.
  • After removing the saucepan from heat, stir in vanilla extract and the bloomed gelatin. Whisk vigorously to dissolve the gelatin entirely, resulting in a lusciously creamy consistency with a hint of vanilla flavor.
  • Strain the panna cotta mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a pouring jug to eliminate any lumps, guaranteeing a velvety finish for the dessert that is free of any cocoa powder clumps.
  • Carefully pour the chocolate-infused mixture into ramekins or molds for even distribution. Place the filled containers in the refrigerator for a minimum of 4 hours to allow the panna cotta to set perfectly and develop its rich, chocolatey flavor.
  • Before serving, garnish the Chocolate Panna Cotta with chocolate shavings or berries to add a touch of elegance and a burst of freshness, enhancing both the visual appeal and the taste of this luxurious dessert.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate cocoa powder.
To make it vegan, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream and use agar-agar instead of gelatin.
Customize with toppings like caramel sauce, chopped nuts, or whipped cream.
To unmold easily, dip the ramekins in hot water for a few seconds before inverting onto a plate.
